Arnous: The whole world is responsible for confronting climate change and its effects

Damascus, SANA- Prime Minister Hussein Arnous affirmed that the whole world is responsible for confronting climate change and working together to address its effects, noting that Syria is one of the first countries to sign and join the climate agreement.

The world agrees that there is an environmental disaster and climate change, and therefore there must be joint action to address the effects of this change, Arnous said in an exclusive statement to the Emirati website ALAIN News during his participation in the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai.

Arnous pointed out that Syria was one of the first countries to sign and join to Climate Convention in 2007, and the government action programs in this field had reached very advanced levels.

“Today, we are approaching many countries in the world in preserving the environment and mitigating the effects of climate change, whether by reducing emissions and switching to renewable energies, or by using modern irrigation systems, sustainable development, and creating funds to mitigate drought”, Arnous added.

Arnous noted that the terrorist war on Syria directly affected the environment and caused great damage to it, and it also caused similar damage in all areas of economics and development.

Arnous pointed out that the Western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria have increased its suffering from the effects of climate change.

Arnous thanked the UAE for hosting the Conference of States Parties to the Climate Convention, which was attended by more than 155 heads of state and government.
