Joint Syrian-Russian government committee meetings in Moscow to follow up a number of cooperation projects

Moscow, SANA- As a follow-up to implementing understandings concluded in the summit held between Presidents Bashar al-Assad and Vladimir Putin in Moscow last March, Syria and Russia discussed these visions and agreements.

That came during a meeting between Minister of Presidential Affairs, Mansour Azzam, Chairman of Joint Syrian-Russian Governmental Committee “on the Syrian side” and Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Alexey Overchuk at the cabinet headquarters in Moscow in the presence of the two countries’ delegations.

Minister Azzam and Deputy Prime Minister discussed the most important joint economic cooperation programs at the level of trade exchange and joint investments.

The Minister also hailed the great potentials and vast energies of Syrian economy, which constitute profitable and promising projects for all participate parties.

For his part, Overchuk described as deep and historic the relations between the two friendly countries, stressing Russian government’s keenness on joint efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges facing the Syrian economy.

Both sides also discussed the trade exchange file, stressing keenness to take all possible steps to enhance the trade balance between the two countries, at customs, commercial, banking and financial levels that would provide appropriate basis to facilitate exchanging of their products.

The meeting also discussed a number of possible measures to link the two countries ports with the aim of facilitating trade exchange across the sea, which reduces transportation costs and contributes to expand list of mutual imports.

The two sides signed an agreement to expand economic cooperation in order to push the joint investments forwards, specifically in energy sector and infrastructure, such transportation and public works, in addition to joint investment projects in the agricultural and industrial sectors.
