Boosting assistance to displaced families and fixing water problem in Aleppo discussed with UNHCR and UNICEF

Aleppo, SANA – Issues of cooperation in the humanitarian and relief work to boost assistance to displaced families at makeshift centers in Aleppo were discussed with the UN Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Governor of Aleppo Mohamamd Marwan Olabi presented a review of the humanitarian conditions of displaced families to head of the UNHCR mission in Syria Tareq al-Kurdi and UNICEF Chief of Field Operations in Damascus Wafaa al-Saeed, during two separate meetings on Saturday.

He called for more cooperation from the international organizations to help secure job opportunities to displaced families, who are hosted in temporary residential centers after they were forced out of their homes and areas by terrorists.

The Governor proposed that those families be granted small loans to enable them to improve their living conditions, in addition to supplying them with the basic needs, particularly drinking water for those staying in the dormitory of Aleppo University.

Olabi also discussed the need for providing the necessary assistance to the project of moving displaced families from the dormitory to another housing site through securing environmentally-friendly prefabricated homes.

UNHCR mission’s chief said Aleppo is one of the organization’s priorities in 2015, referring to plans to support humanitarian projects and others related to rehabilitating makeshift centers and building eco-friendly homes.

She also stressed the organization’s interest in helping fix the drinking water problem, as the province frequently suffers outages due to terrorist organizations’ attacks.
