Grandi inspects conditions of quake-affected in Jableh

Lattakia, SANA- UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi accompanied by Governor of Lattakia, Amer Hilal, inspected the conditions of those affected by the earthquake in the shelter center of the martyr Saleh Mahmoud in Jableh.

Grandi and his accompanying delegation listened to the demands of the families residing in the center, who called for lifting of the unjust siege imposed on Syria.

During a meeting held in the municipality of Jableh, Governor Hilal refered to the damage caused by the earthquake and the difficulties that faced the plan to respond to this disaster as a result of the lack of supplies for rescue operations and the shortage of equipment, medicines and ambulances as a result of the terrorist war that Syria was exposed to and the unfair sanctions that affected all aspects of life.

He pointed to the difficulties and challenges resulting from the great destruction of buildings, in addition to the damaged schools that will affect the progress of the educational process.

The Governor pointed out that the number of those affected by the earthquake exceeds 77 thousand families,and that facing these repercussions requires international assistance.

Grandi expressed his deep condolences to the earthquake victims, pointing out that the Organization continues to provide aid, noting that there has been approval of a new cash assistance program to help the most needy families.

He referred to the UNHCR’s readiness to provide its expertise and assistance in dealing with this disaster due to the experiences it gained from dealing with similar circumstances.
