Damascus, SANA- An aid plane, provided by the EU countries, arrived at Damascus Airport on Sunday, carrying relief and medical supplies for the earthquake-affected people.
“I offer sincere condolences to the victims of the earthquake that struck Syria, and today we came on a mission organized by the European Union and the International Red Cross to provide assistance to people in need as soon as possible,” Head of EU humanitarian aid operations in Syria, Luigi Pandolfi says.
Pandolfi adds “Since the first day of the earthquake, the EU has increased its support for Syria through the Red Crescent Organization, to ensure that aid reaches all parts of Syria as quickly as possible, and since February 8, we have activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.”
According to Pandolfi, 15 European countries have sent aid for the all those affected by the disastrous quake which hit Syria recently, and they will continue providing more aid.
Head of Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) Eng. Khaled Hboubati, for his part, said that the plane is the third European plane to arrive in Syria and it carries 120 tons of relief and medical supplies.
He expressed Syria’s thanks to the countries and peoples of the European Union for sending this aid.
