Aleida Guevara offers condolences on earthquake victims at Syrian Embassy in Havana

Havana, SANA- Dr. Aleida Guevara March, daughter of the fighter Ernesto Che Guevara, offered condolences to Syria and to the families of the victims of the earthquake that jolted the country on Feb. 6th, expressing her solidarity with them in this painful calamity.

During her visit to the Syrian Embassy in Havana and her meeting with Ambassador Dr. Ghassan Obaid, Aleida Guevara condemned the unjust and arbitrary coercive US measures imposed on Syria.

She affirmed that these measures impede the reconstruction process and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, which is further evidence of the hypocrisy of Western countries and Washington towards the Syrian people and the double standards they practice.

Aleida slammed these sanctions, saying that they are similar to the unjust criminal sanctions imposed by the United States on Cuba.

She highlighted the need to lift all sanctions on the peoples of the world to enable them to live and develop.

Ambassador Obaid, for his part, expressed thanks for the solidarity with Syria in these difficult circumstances.

He shed light on the devastating effects of the earthquake which has jolted Syria recently and the plan of the Syrian Government to address these effects.

Obaid pointed to the exacerbating negative impact of the blockade and the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria, as they prevent the arrival of basic supplies of food, medical and logistical equipment needed in search and rescue operations for the Syrian people.

He commended the humanitarian initiatives launched by the allied and friendly countries of Syria, including Cuba, to counter the effects of this earthquake.
