President Raisi: Media mission is to safeguard nations’ identity

Tehran, SANA- The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran said that the media should be able to preserve and protect the independence, identity, and freedom of the nations and protect them from the media and cultural attacks.

Meeting the participants in the 18th edition of the summit of the senior managers of the Organization of Asian and Pacific News Agencies (OANA) General Assembly, being held in Tehran with participation of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) represented by its editor-in- chief Eiad Wannous, President Ebrahim Raisi added that  “The mission of the media is to preserve the independence and identity of countries, especially in the region.

Stating that today we live in a world of information and communication where there are many attacks on the culture of nations, especially independent nations, he said: “Enemies want to strip countries of their identity so that there would no independent country in the world and region.”

The President stressed: “In contrast to this invasion, the role of the media is very important and decisive, and the media as a position that can have several characteristics, the first characteristic of which in order to be a promising position for the people, is honesty and truth and it is time to act.”

The Iranian president pointed out that the role of the media is to prevent violence, organized crimes and ethnic and religious disputes, drug smuggling and other issues.

After that, the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met OANA meeting participants,  with him  affirming the importance of cooperation among media outlets of OANA members and stressing the need to establish a new order to counter “one-way information flow” from the West.

In another context, Abdullahian said that Iran is cooperating with Russia in various fields such as the defense one, adding that Iran has previously received and supplied arms to Russia, but that did not take place during its War in Ukraine.

Iran is ready to examine the claims of sending drones to Russia, the minister said, affirming that “the Islamic Republic of Iran has not and will not provide any weapons to be used in the war in Ukraine”.

Abdullahian referred to the“US side’s attempts to maintain the nuclear deal with Iran through exchanging diplomatic messages in this regard. “Nevertheless, recent unrest and executing assassinations have been simultaneously provoked by US in some regions”.

OANA meeting attendees paid a visit to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) as they got acquainted with the organization’s processes and the peaceful uses of its products in the field of agriculture, production, and medical treatments.
