Russian companies invited to invest in electricity and alternative energy sources

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis invited Russian companies to invest in the field of generating traditional and alternative energy sources to contribute to overcoming the consequences of the 4-year long crisis.

The Minister’s invitation, he said, is aimed at encouraging companies of Russia, and other friendly countries, to help in the rehabilitation of power generating and transmission stations which sustained damage and have gone out of service under the terrorist organizations’ attacks.

Speaking during his meeting with Russia’s Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Kinshchaka on Thursday, Khamis called for signing long-term agreements with Russian companies through which the latter can contribute to building new generating plants and providing the necessary fuel to operate the stations that are in service.

He also called for forming a sub-committee of the Syrian-Russian Joint Committee that would tackle electricity-related issues.

The Russian Ambassador, for his part, stressed the deep bilateral relations between his country and Syria and the need to continue the development of those relations in all areas.
