New weeklong polio vaccination campaign to start on Sunday

Damascus, SANA – The Health Ministry finished preparations for a weeklong campaign for vaccination against polio which will start on Sunday February 15.

Health Minister Nizar Yazigi told SANA that this campaign targets children under five and will be carried out in health centers across the country as well as in temporary housing centers and via mobile teams.

He said that the Ministry distributed around 3 million doses of polio vaccines and mobilized 7,723 health workers along with 1,828 experienced volunteers for the campaign, in addition to 888 vehicles for mobile teams.

The Minister called on all parents to have their children vaccinated, asserting that the vaccine used in Syria is of high quality, produced by major international pharmaceutical companies, and administered by qualified medical staff that adhere to stringent transport and preservation procedures.

The Health Ministry had launched a sub-national vaccination campaign at the start of 2015 to provide vaccines against various diseases to children in 549 villages and population centers across the country.
