Tunisian officials: Restoring relations with Syria is a priority

Beirut, SANA_ Tunisia’s new government announced that restoring the diplomatic ties with Syria would be a priority, considering cutting them as a wrong policy.

In a statement to Lebanese As-Safir newspaper published Friday, New Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid pledged to review all the decisions taken by the former Tunisian governments related to Tunisian diplomatic relations, especially the urgent files such as the relations with Syria.

In a similar statement, Tunisian Foreign Minister Taieb Baccouche, stressed the new government’s determination to review the previous government’s wrong foreign policy and to give restoring diplomatic relations with Syria a priority.

” Tunisian people’s interest, especially the Tunisian community in Syria, necessitates reviving the relations between the two countries,” Baccouche said, stressing the need to respect the principles and bases of the Tunisian foreign diplomacy which is based on strengthening  relations with Tunisia’s partners, friends and brothers with taking into consideration the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of these countries.

Bacouche held the former Tunisian president and foreign minister in the period of al-Nahda movement responsible for committing mistakes regarding the relations with Syria, Libya, Algeria and other states, emphasizing the sincere intention to revive the severed relations in accordance with a diplomatic policy  and a program that will be announced  soon.
