Al-Jazaeri: Syrian economy witnessed positive economic growth in 2014

Damascus, SANA – Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Humam al-Jazaeri said that the Syrian economy has experienced positive economic growth in 2014 for the first time since the outbreak of the crisis in the country.

During talks with the Kazakh Consul in Syria, the minister highlighted the leading role of private sector and expansion of investment expenditure, particularly in agricultural and industrial projects, in achieving this remarkable improvement.

He stressed the importance of joint coordination to establish new infrastructure projects with the aim of promoting bilateral trade and investment relations, reiterating Syria’s desire to accede to the Eurasian Customs Union (ECU).

Al-Jazaeri noted that Syria’s accession to the Union would facilitate the flow of goods and investments between the ECU member states, highlighting the need for benefiting from the Kazakh experience in this regard.
In turn, the Kazakh Consul expressed the Kazakh businessmen’s real desire to know more about the available trade and investment opportunities in Syria.

He reiterated his country’s rejection of any foreign intervention in Syria’s affairs, hoping that Syria will restore security and stability in the near future.

The talks discussed boosting cooperation prospects between Syria and Kazakhstan in trade, economy and investment sectors.
