Russian Defense calls on Ukrainian forces to lay down arms in Mariupol

Moscow, SANA- Russian Defense Ministry announced that it will make an offer to the Ukrainian army in Mariupol city, which includes laying down weapons, ensuring the lives of soldiers, and exiting from the humanitarian corridors to the territory controlled by Kyiv.

“The Russian armed forces, on the basis of purely humanitarian principles, call on the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, regional defense battalions and foreign mercenaries to stop hostilities starting at 6 a.m. Moscow time, laying down weapons and leaving along the route agreed upon with the Ukrainian side in the direction of Zaporozhye city to the territory controlled by Kyiv.”, Interfax News Agency quoted a statement by the director of the Russian National Center for Defense Management, Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev as saying.

The statement called on the Ukrainian formations in Mariupol to lay down their weapons and leave, stressing that “everyone who lays down arms guarantees the preservation of his life.”

The statement noted that the Russian Army had proposed the establishment of continuous contact between the Russian and Ukrainian sides in order to exchange information, starting at 9 a.m. this morning, a state of truce, during which the Russian and Ukrainian armies and the forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic should completely cease military operations and the exit of all Ukrainian armed units and foreign mercenaries without exception and without weapons or ammunition.
