Syrian-Iraqi talks in transport and railways field

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Transport, Zuhair Khuzaim, discussed with the Chargé d’Affairs of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus Yassin Sharif al-Hujaimi and the Director General of the Iraqi Railways Company, Eng. Talib Jawad Kazem, means to activate joint cooperation in the railway transport sector between the two countries.

The meeting dealt with ways to develop a joint cooperation aspects of trade exchange between the two countries with regard to railway transport and transit convoys.

The impact of the war and the repercussions of coercive economic measures on the railway sector in Syria were also reviewed.

It was agreed to continue the meetings between the two sides, especially the technical ones, to reach a common formula that enhancing and developing of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Director of the General Company for Syrian Railways, Dr. Najib Fares, said in a statement to SANA that this meeting is fully specialized and technical regarding the issue of railroad connectivity and the unified specifications that must be approved by both networks in the two countries.

It comes as a continuation of previous meetings within the framework of following up on the issue of rail linkage between the Iraqi and Syrian railway networks.
