General Organization of Remote Sensing, ACSAD sign cooperation agreement

Damascus, SANA- The General Organization of Remote Sensing (GORS) and the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) have signed an agreement to enhance cooperation.

The agreement stipulates for enhancing cooperation in the field of exchanging experience, information, data and space data and to establish joint work platforms aimed at protecting and managing natural resources and preparing spatial digital databases to serve sustainable development and optimal use of these resources.

The agreement also provides for cooperation in the field of developing the use of remote sensing and upstream technologies for scientific and applied purposes to support sustainable development, support innovation, train national technical cadres, increase their scientific and applied capacity, and implement joint projects in the fields of land, water, vegetation and climate change.

The agreement includes preparing analytical maps to monitor the interrelationship between rainfed crops and dry seasons, joint work to determine the spectral signature of wheat cultivation systems in Syria and the Arab countries, and the development of joint training programs directed to government bodies in the field of natural resource management, protection and preservation.

In a press statement following the signing of the agreement, Director General of the Organization, Dr. Abdul Majeed al-Kafri, noted that the agreement is a new start for cooperation with ACSAD to advance the scientific, research and agricultural sector.

In turn, ACSAD’s Director General, Dr. Nasr Edin Obaid, stressed the need for coordination between Arab institutions for the development of agricultural scientific research.

He expressed the ACSAD readiness for further cooperation with the Remote Sensing Organization to serve sustainable development operations in Syria and Arab countries.
