Extremist groups presence in Idleb source of destabilization, Syromolotov says

Moscow, SANA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov has stressed that the presence of extremist groups in Idleb and the remnants of Daesh “ISIS” and al-Qaeda cells in Syria constitute a source of instability, noting that the counter-terrorism operation is still ongoing.

“The situation regarding the fight against terrorism is still very tense…The difficult situation still exists in Syria, where the main destabilizing factors are the survival of extremist groups in Idleb de-escalation and the presence of ISIS and al-Qaeda cells.”

Syromolotov stressed that the Syrian army, in close cooperation with the Russian armed forces, was able during the past year to consolidate success in confronting Daesh “ISIS” terrorist organization on Syrian territory.

“As a result of that, the capabilities of this organization have been significantly weakened, its strength and important equipment have been eliminated, its organizational structure has been destroyed, and the provision of resources to it has been reduced,” he added.

On the other hand, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister suggested concluding an agreement on international regulation of internet governance, pointing out that it would be effective if it was adopted by all countries.

“This issue is being discussed within the framework of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in the events of which Russia plays the most active part, including in the work of all ITU study groups and working groups without exception,” Syromolotov added.
