Syrian industrialists invited to establish joint power generation projects in Iraq

Baghdad, SANA – Means of developing the Iraqi-Syrian cooperation in electricity and power generation were the focal point in talks held in Baghdad between the Iraqi Minister of Electricity Qasim al-Fahdawi and the Syrian Ambassador in Baghdad Sattam Jadaan al-Dandah.

According to a statement by the Iraqi Electricity Ministry on Tuesday, al-Fahdawi invited Syrian industrialists to enter the Iraqi market and contribute to establishing new production lines for generating electricity in Iraq in order to supply the Ministry with its requirements of spare and replacement parts for plants, energy transmission lines and distribution networks.

Such step will help in improving the local industrial sector in Iraq and having the Syrian industrialists back to work after being suspended due to the current crisis ravaging the country, he added.

The Minister suggested the establishment of power generation plants on the Syrian-Iraqi border in areas that have been totally cleansed of the gangs of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization.

He stressed the important role of governmental and private investment companies in achieving this goal in order to supply the Syrian electricity system, which has been greatly damaged due the terrorist attacks.

For his part, Syria’s Ambassador underlined the importance of boosting the Syrian-Iraqi relations in a way that reflects positively on the people of the two countries.

Speaking to SANA reporter in Baghdad, al-Dandah noted that the Iraqi proposal indicates the great success of the Syrian industry and industrialists despite the global terrorist war waged against the country since 2011.
