Damascus, SANA- Over the current year, Ministry of Health has exerted all possible efforts to provide health care and its requirements in all areas including vaccines, medicines and equipments, in addition to capacity building.
Four new hospitals have been opened in Homs central province while 10 health centers have been inaugurated in the provinces of Damascus Countryside, Lattakia, Homs, Deir Ezzor, Sweida and Quneitra.
All medicines of communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV have been provided by the Ministry to treat the pathological cases which come from outside Syria, in addition to providing medicines for chronic diseases as cancer and diabetes.
Eleven vaccination campaigns against polio and other diseases have been launched by the Ministry over the current year which included about 3 million under-five children in all provinces, and they have been carried out by a specialized medical cadre according to tight international measures and standards, and the vaccines were bought from major international corporations.
Syria remained free of polio from 1995 till Oct. 2013 when the first case of polio was discovered in al-Mayadin area in Deir Ezzor northeastern province as laboratory reports at that time showed that the type of the virus is similar to that which spreads in Pakistan which means that terrorist organizations are responsible for bringing it to Syria.
