Hama University, ACSAD sign agreement on enhancing scientific, technical cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Hama University and the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) signed an agreement to enhance technical and scientific cooperation between them and to conduct specialized scientific research and studies and field applications that would achieve optimal investment of natural resources.

The agreement provides for cooperation between both sides in the fields of preserving and improving the animal and plant genotyping suitable for dry areas, developing models for integrated agricultural production systems, developing organic agriculture, in addition to using biotechnologies in the field of artificial insemination, embryo transfer and fertilization in tubes, in the field of plant and animal genetic footprint, monitoring land degradation and rehabilitating of degraded environmental areas, soil studies and cooperation in the field of animal health as well as surveillance of epidemics and common diseases and methods of prevention.

The agreement included supporting postgraduate students (masters and doctoral degrees) to complete their thesis that are agreed upon by both parties after scientific and technical consultation, including in the tasks of ACSAD and its fields of activities and research, and to contribute to supporting research and studies by providing the laboratory, field, information and office supplies needed by the research and the joint organization of scientific meetings and training courses aimed at strengthening and qualifying cadres in the areas of joint work and exchanging publications and leaflets issued by both parties.

Dr. Mohammad Ziyad Sultan, Rector of Hama University said in a press statement after the signing of the agreement that it is a new start to the process of cooperation between the two sides and a natural outcome of the prestigious position that ACSAD enjoys, especially in the recent period at the level of the Arab world, hoping for fruitful cooperation in various fields ACSAD Organization for the advancement of the scientific, research and agricultural sector is interested in, which has proven highly efficient in all fields in which it works.

For his part, Director General of the Arab Center (ACSAD) Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Ubaid affirmed in a similar statement that the agreement embodies constructive cooperation relations between the organization, the Ministry of Higher Education and the University of Hama in various fields of common interest, expressing the organization’s readiness for more cooperation with professors and researchers in all Syrian universities to serve ACSAD goals in sustainable agricultural development processes in Syria and the Arab countries.
