Damascus countryside, SANA- Several projects have been initiated by the Municipal Council in Maaloula town, including the rehabilitation of the ancient eastern valley and the visitor service center in the town square.
Chairman of the local council in the city, Ibrahim al-Shaer stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the projects are being implemented with the support of Damascus countryside governorate, the most important of which is the rehabilitation of the archaeological eastern valley, which provides a safe path for visitors between Deir Mar Takla and Deir Saint Sarkis with a cost of 45 million Syrian pounds, which will be implemented in two stages.
Al-Shaer indicated that the Council is working to implement the Visitor Service Center, which is being established with the support of the Mar Ephrem Syriac Patriarchal Body for Development in Maaloula Square.
Al-Shaer added that work is also underway to rehabilitate the town’s entrance, which is a arch of Triumph and a painting that includes pictures of the martyrs of the Syrian Arab Army who passed away in Maaloula before its liberation, indicating at the same time the implementation of a project to lit the town’s streets with renewable energy.
