Lavrov: The West adopts double standards towards Syria in light of Corona pandemic

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, denounced on Friday the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and a number of European countries on Syria, including the so-called “Caesar Act” in light of coronavirus pandemic.

“The West adopts double standards by refraining from helping Syria in the humanitarian issues and by continuing to stifle it economically during the conditions of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic,” Lavrov said in a speech to the International Mediterranean Conference- Rome Dialogue via video.

He added that “The Americans and Europeans justify the imposition of coercive measures and the Caesar Act against Syria under baseless and untrue pretexts.

Lavrov reiterated the illegality of the presence of the US occupation forces in the Syrian territories, voicing regret that “Syria is taking positive steps within the framework of a political solution to the crisis in it, but in response to this, it gets an illegal American armed presence on its territory that impedes the restoration of the country’s unity.

Lavrov affirmed that “Syria managed to eliminate terrorism in most of its lands,” adding that  efforts to rebuild the country and return the displaced Syrians to their regions require the participation of the entire international community.
