Damascus, SANA- With the participation of civil and youth initiatives, a marathon was launched on Friday “Let’s walk together and challenge cancer” to raise awareness of early detection of breast cancer, starting from Jalaa Sports Club in Damascus towards the al-Akram Mosque on Mazzeh highway, to be its last stop in Umayyad Square.
The marathon organized by the Syrian Company for Crafts ( one of the programs of the Syrian Trust for Development ) in cooperation with the Governorate of Damascus comes as part of the National Plan for Cancer Control and the activities of the Pink Month that occurs in October of each year, and the proceeds of the marathon will be to support those affected by the fires recently witnessed by a number of governorates, according to Muhammad al-Shawi’s statement, Supervisor of administrative affairs in the company to SANA.
Breast cancer is one of the most common and dangerous types of cancer among women and in Syria, last year, 2,063 new cases were diagnosed in women and 103 cases in men.
