Kuala Lumpur, SANA – Syria was chosen in Group 5 in the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship qualifiers in the draw that was held on Thursday at the headquarter of the Asian Football Confederation in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur Group 5 also included Uzbekistan, India and Bangladesh.
Thirty-four teams will participate in the Championship, which will be held in Qatar. The teams were divided into ten groups.
The first edition of the Championship was held early 2014 in Oman under the name U-22 Championship before it was renamed. The Iraqi team won the cup after beating the Saudi team 2-0 in the final game.
The Syrian team went out to South Korea 1-2 in the quarter-finals.
