Cairo, SANA – Syria will participate in 10 games of the 8th Special Olympics MENA Regional Games scheduled to be held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
Head of the Syrian mission to the Games, Talal Barniyeh, expressed the Syrian Special Olympiad’s keenness to participate in the regional tournament to give the Syrian athletes the opportunity to compete with others, especially that the Olympiad activities have not been halted despite the difficult circumstances in the country.
Damascus hosted the first local tournament more than two months ago, which was a great success, Barniyeh said, speaking to SANA Sports reporter.
The 8th MENA Regional Games bring together 1,025 athletes representing 14 countries, including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Qatar and Iran, besides Syria.
Syria’s participation, according to Barniyeh, will include the following games: swimming, athletics, cycling, equestrian, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, skating and bocce.
