1971- Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Qawain and Fujairah were united under the name of United Arab Emirates, the seventh, Ras Al Khaimah joined the Union later.

1979 – U.S. embassy in Tripoli was burned by some 2,000 Libyan demonstrators.

1907- Renowned Palestinian-Lebanese historian Nicola Ziyadeh was born.
