Syrian teenager sets world record in mental calculation contest in Morocco – video

Qamishli, SANA- Syrian teenager Hussein Khaled Omar has set a new world record in the mental calculation contest “Flash Anzan” in the Grey Matter Program by teacher Ali Ashri which has been recently held in Morocco.

Hussein, aged 13, from Qamishli City, was able to achieve first place in the Arab world in the program by adding and subtracting 150 single–digit numbers at a time of 0.070 seconds, breaking a previous world record registered by a child from Japan which was estimated at 0.200 seconds in adding 100 two-digit numbers.

Hussein told SANA that his passion for mathematics, especially mental calculation, pushed him to join the IELTS Center, and with the help of his coach and the encouragement by his family, he has been able to excel in this field and learn to add and subtract numbers quickly, following several methods.

Hussein’s father, Eng. Khaled Omar, showed great happiness for his child’s excellence and for achieving a world record in mental calculation, noting that his son is distinguished by his love of learning.

“I have tried to sharpen his talents in mental arithmetic operations as I have registered him and his brothers at a specialized center to train them, each according to his inclination,” noting that what his son has achieved in light of the current circumstances and the difficult situation reflects his insistence on learning and following the path of knowledge.

Trainer Rawda al-Muktif indicated that Hussein represented Syria in the Gray Matter Program in Morocco at the level of the Arab world and was able, with his distinctive abilities, to outperform all participants and register a new world record.

Al-Muktif called on the families to pay attention to their children and develop their talents, especially since there are many children with distinguished talents that deserve development.
