Geneva, SANA – The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said that terrorist groups in Syria are exploiting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to inflict violence on civilians.
Bachelet said on Friday that several armed groups in Syria, including Daesh (ISIS), appear to view the global focus on the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to regroup and inflict violence on the population.
The Commissioner warned that this situation as a “ticking time-bomb that must not be ignored.”
