Russian language department opened at Damascus University

Damascus, SANA – The Russian language and literature department at the Literature and Human Sciences Faculty of Damascus University was opened on Monday.

Higher Education Minister Mohammad Amer Mardini said the new department was opened due to the need for this specialization in the job market, adding that this step also shows the strength of the relations between Syria and Russia.

Russian Ambassador in Syria Azamat Kulmuhametov, who attended the opening ceremony, said that this step is a sign of the closeness and friendship between the two countries, asserting that Russia will not change its stance on the crisis in Syria.

The opening ceremony included the screening of documentary on Russia and a musical performance from the Russian heritage.

Around 80 students enrolled in the Russian language and literature department for the 2014-2015 school year.
