A reception marking Foundation Day of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations

Damascus, SANA- The Indian Embassy in Damascus on Tuesday held a reception ceremony marking the Foundation Day of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) at the Damascus-based Dama Rose Hotel.

In a speech delivered during the ceremony, Indian Ambassador in Damascus Hifzur Rahman said that the goals of the ICCR are represented in forming and implementing special policies related to the foreign cultural relations and enhancing and consolidating cultural relations and mutual understanding with the other nations.

The Indian Ambassador affirmed the deep-rootedness of the Indian-Syrian relations, referring to the scholarships provided by his country to the Syrians, in addition to the professional training scholarships provided by the Indian Foreign Ministry in framework of the Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation Program (ITEC).

For his part, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad shed light on the solid relations binding the two friendly counties on different levels, indicating that India has stood by Syria at different international forums, and in its right in restoring the occupied Syrian Golan, in addition to supporting it in its war against terrorism.

Mikdad underlined the importance of the Syrian-Indian cooperation in the cultural, technical and scientific domains.

Mikdad said that in a time when many states sought to destroy the infrastructure in Syria, India worked on participating in the reconstruction stage as a contribution to supporting the steadfastness of the Syrian people in the face of terrorism.
