Damascus, SANA – Students of Master’s program in restoration of historical buildings and rehabilitation of archeological and natural sites at Damascus University proposed in their graduation projects plans for the rehabilitation of 22 archeological buildings and sites in Damascus and other provinces.
The projects included documentary studies of these sites and plans and suggestions for their rehabilitation and restoration in order to preserve them and invest in them in the tourist and cultural fields.
Rector of Architectural Engineering Faculty Salman Mahmoud said in a statement to SANA that these projects must be supported and made use of in the restoration works of the archeological sites and buildings that were damaged due to the terrorists’ activities or those that were naturally eroded with time.
He noted that the students followed five scientific methods in their projects that included presenting full historical studies of the sites and buildings and studies of the building materials and their status and then their theory in restoration.
The projects focused on a number of archeological sites and houses in Saroujeh area in Damascus and its countryside, the old city of Aleppo, Lattakia, Tartous, Old Homs, Hama, Raqqa and other areas.
Mahmoud called for adopting their projects by the authorities concerned, mainly the General Directorate of Archeology and Museums at the Ministry of Culture, to be implemented on the ground.
