Tehran, SANA-Deputy Secretary of Iran’s National Security Council, Saeid Iravani held talks with the Russian President’s Special Envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in Tehran on Thursday, in which they discussed means to support a political solution to the crisis in Syria and Helsinki’s recent summit between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump.
Iravani reiterated in a statement following the meeting his country’s support for the political solution in Syria, indicating that Iran gives the Syrian-Syrian dialogue special attention and stands by all efforts in this field.
Iravani said that the Syrian Arab Army’s victories on terrorism are a significant step forward in promoting the political process within the framework of Astana and Sochi talks.
For his part, Lavrentiev stressed the determination of the Russian government to continue joint cooperating with Tehran on the fight against terrorism. “Russia will continue in this process until the full establishment of security and stability in Syria,” he said.
