Damascus, SANA-President Bashar al-Assad received on Sunday Senior Assistant to Iran’s Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, Hossein Jaberi Ansari, and the accompanying delegation.
President al-Assad and Ansari stressed the importance of the strategic relationship between Syria and Iran for the people of both countries and for the benefit of the region as a whole.
They agreed to continue working to strengthen this relationship and develop it continuously as it is an important stabilizing factor in the region.
Ansari congratulated Syria’s people and leadership on the achievements in the framework of defeating terrorism in the city of Daraa and its countryside, whether through reconciliations or military operations.
President al-Assad stressed that these achievements reflect the solid will of the Syrian Arab Army and the allied forces in liberating the entire Syrian territory from terrorism.
The two sides affirmed that the elimination of terrorism in most of the Syrian territories has achieved the most appropriate ground to achieve results at the political level that would end the war on Syria, but what prevent that are the policies and preconditions set by countries that support terrorism.
At the level of international policy, the two sides emphasized that the policy of exclusivity in the resolution adopted by some major countries in recent times constitutes a most serious factor of the destabilization of international peace and security and the more states rejecting this policy, the greater the chances of establishing stability in the world.
The meeting was attended by the Presidential Political and Media Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban, Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad, the Director of the Asia Department at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry.
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem also met Ansari 
and discussed with him the latest political and field developments in light of the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies on the terrorist groups and those who supported them.
Talks dealt with the upcoming Sochi meeting of the Astana group and the importance of intensifying bilateral coordination and consultation in the next phase to counter the plots targeting the stability of Syria and the region
