Russian Defense Ministry : Terrorists used chemical weapons in Aleppo

MOSCOW SANA- Russia’s Defense Ministry has found poisonous chlorine and white phosphorus in nine samples from southwestern Aleppo, the ministry’s spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said Monday.

“Experts from the Russian Defense Ministry conducted an express test of nine samples of shell fragments and earth from shell craters that were taken in district 1070 in the southwestern Aleppo suburb. They confirmed that chlorine and white
phosphorus were used to fill munitions,” Konashenkov was quoted by the Russian Sputnik news agency as saying in a statement.

He added that Russian experts took bioassays from four Syrians who were injured in the terrorists chemical attack for detailed testing in Russia.

The Russian official pointed out that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical
Weapons (OPCW) was reluctant to join forces with Russia or send experts to Aleppo despite inviting it to work together.

The spokesman said scientists from the Russian Armed Forces’ Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops were gathering evidence that prove terrorists use of chemical weapons in Aleppo.

On November 11, Konashenkov called upon the OPCW leadership to consider the possibility of urgently sending OPCW fact-finding mission experts to Aleppo’s 1070 apartment’s neighborhood.

The terrorist organizations used the poisonous gas more than once against the residential neighborhoods as they fired shells containing poisonous gas on the directions of Minian, 1070 apartment and al-Hamadaniyeh residential neighborhood, causing more than 48 cases of asphyxia.
