Parliament speaker meets French delegation

Damascus, SANA- Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham affirmed that it is time to recognize the failure of Western policies and approach to Takfiri terrorism that has swept the region.

During a meeting with a French parliamentary and media delegation which is visiting Syria, al-Laham underlined the parliamentarians’ role in correcting political approaches of some countries against Syria and their wrong stances which serve terrorists and murderers.

“Throughout history, Syria has been home for a blending of cultures and human interaction between different ethnicities and an example of coexistence among all its components, and will continue to be so,” He said.

Al-Laham pointed out that the flow of displaced people from some countries in the region to Europe is an expected result of flawed Western policies and their blatant intervention to change regimes and governments by force, noting that the state of war, chaos and lack of border control by neighboring countries will lead to increasing the numbers of terrorists in Syria and the entire region which will reflect negatively on Europe when those terrorists return.

The Syrian Arab Army is determined to restore stability and security for all Syrian lands, he said.

Answering questions by the delegation members, al-Laham affirmed that French airstrikes against sites of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on Syrian lands run counter to international law and the UN Charter, adding it is necessary that Western countries understand that changing the Syrian government and political regime is rejected by the Syrians and only Syrian people have the national decision for self-determination away from external interferences.

For his part, head of the delegation Gerard Bapt, who is president of the France-Syria Friendship Group in the French Parliament, said that the delegation’s visit to Syria aims to inspect to the humanitarian situation in Syria.

“The Syrians are determined to rebuild schools and infrastructure which had been damaged due to terrorist acts,” Bapt said, adding that the delegation will convey all the ideas and views they listened to during the visit to religious, scientific and social figures in France.
