Russian MoD: Washington rejects to provide security guarantees for humanitarian convoys near al-Tanf

Moscow, SANA- Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Washington rejects to provide security guarantees for the movement of the humanitarian convoys in al-Tanf area where the US  military base was illegitimately established and it blocks the return of the displaced Syrians in al-Rukban Camp to their hometowns which have been liberated from terrorism through humanitarian corridors opened for that purpose.

“The American side rejects to provide security guarantees of the movement of humanitarian convoys around the US base in al-Tanf,” Head of the Hmeimim-based Russian Coordination Center Col. Gen. Viktor Kupchishin said.

Kupchishin noted that “According to the decision taken on March 1st in a meeting of the Joint Coordination Center between Russia and Syria for the return of displaced to Syria and for preventing a humanitarian catastrophe in al-Rukban cam, buses were sent to Jalib area for the return of al-Rukban’s residents from al-Tanf area to their hometowns.”

He affirmed that the “Syrian Government guarantees the safety of the displaced and it had facilitated the measures to recover the documents  and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the Syrian Arab Republic has been informed.”

With the aim of evacuating the displaced who are held by the US forces and its mercenaries of terrorists at al-Rukban Camp, on Feb. 19th, two humanitarian corridors were opened in the towns of Jalib and Jabal al-Ghourab on the outskirts of the area through the coordination and cooperation between the Syrian and Russian joint coordination bodies for the return of the displaced to their hometowns.
