Homs, SANA – Over 45,000 children were vaccinated during the recent national anti-polio vaccination campaign for children under five.
Head of Healthcare Department at Homs Health Directorate Abdul-Momen Qashaq told SANA that the campaign, which finished Thursday, targeted children in needy areas which are “unsafe” who did not benefit from previous campaigns.
Displaced children who came from other provinces and are living at makeshift centers, in addition to children in Badia, Hassia, Palmyra and Mukharram countryside were reached during the campaign.
Qashaq noted that the campaign was expected to include 65,000 children, but there were difficulties to access certain areas due to the security situation areas such as al-Houla, stressing that 5000 anti-polio doses were sent to al-Waer area to cover the needs there.
