Lattakia, SANA – 12-years old Ghiwa Salman is a remarkable child whose innovative talent is clearly manifested in her drawings on glass through which she has proven her presence on the local art scene.
“I started to draw since I was five years old… paper and colors have always been my close friends through which I was able to translate my imagination and feelings,” Ghiwa said.
Ghiwa’s father noticed her talent and worked on developing it, and she joined the atelier of famous artist Hiam Salman to start a new stage of training.
Ghiwa said “at the atelier, I learned many things which I didn’t know before… I also joined the association of ‘I Draw My Dream’ which was established by artist Salman… At the association I learned the main rules of drawing and its tools, and I became skilled in using acrylic and watercolors.”
“People stand for a long time watching my drawings and wondering how a very young child can draw such pictures,” she added.
Ghiwa focuses on women as the main subject of her artwork, sometimes drawing women with daughters and sometimes with a group of boys and in other instances with birds or other natural scenery.
She is very proud of her five paintings which she has executed up till now using acrylic and watercolors and she considers them a very precious treasure.
Ghiwa participated in two exhibitions organized by the association, the first of which was titled “Life Continues” and was held a month ago at Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Lattakia, in which she won first prize for her entry titled “Trees Beyond Nature” which she executed with acrylic.
The second exhibition she participated in was held last year at Tishreen University under the title “We Love Life” in which she participated with a painting titled “Arab Woman,” and she won second prize for the painting which she divided into four parts, each of which represents a single side of a woman’s life.
