Moscow, SANA- President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer urged all parties who can influence the course of events in Syria and Iraq to show respect for human dignity in the two countries.
“The people need those who believe in humanity, who protect homes, schools and hospitals, who protect civilians and treat people with respect, and who allow and facilitate neutral and impartial humanitarian help for those in need,” said Maurer in a statement.
“We stand ready to talk to anyone, or to act as an intermediary, so that more help, more assistance, can be delivered. When the guns fall silent, and they will do one day, it will be that common respect for human dignity that will provide a way forward. And for the healing process to begin,” said Maurer.
Maurer, who concluded a visit to Syria late last February, expressed satisfaction over growing relations between the international organization and the Syrian government which has had a positive impact on delivering aid inside Syria.
