Cabinet discusses expanding investment projects in stable provinces

Damascus, SANA – The Cabinet’s weekly session on Tuesday discussed a number or services and economic issues, most notably means to expand investment projects in stable areas and dealing with recurring fires in the coastal region.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi said that there are projects to build dams to improve the situation of water resources and possibly use them to generate electricity and provide drinking and irrigation water.

He also stressed the need for launching projects that provide new job opportunities and focus on food products suitable to crops produced locally, as well as the importance of supporting medium, small and micro projects.

The Premier stressed the need to complete the fuel smart card project and employ it in all state establishments and bodies without exception, in addition to expanding gas stations in Damascus.

During the session, Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs, Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalwanji reviewed the status of the services sector, while Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem briefed the Cabinet on the results of his visits to Tehran and Oman.

The Cabinet discussed a number of bills, including one on granting prizes to students who excelled in final exams, one on retirement of pilots, and one related to amending the state budget.
