2nd flight within expatriate initiative to break siege on Syrian Airlines arrives at Lattakia airport

Lattakia, SANA – The second flight within an initiative to promote social and national links  between the expatriates and their fellow Syrians at home, arrived at Bassel al-Assad Airport  in Lattakia province on Thursday.

Around 140 expatriates coming from several European cities arrived on board a Syrian Airlines plane across Algeria.

The initiative challenges the unfair economic blockade and sanctions imposed on Syria in the framework of the global war waged against it since 2011.

Suzan Doghman, who has lived in France for four years, said the trip allowed some of the Syrians abroad to visit the homeland, noting that the main aim of the initiative’s trips is to break the siege imposed on the Syrian Arab Airlines and to support the national economy.

The initiative started in early July, where flights are meant to be run weekly from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and England across Algeria to Lattakia and then Damascus.

Coordinator of the trips, Rima Khleifawy, told SANA that running flights will continue throughout July and August.

This year’s initiative is a second version of the one launched last year by the Gathering of the Syrian Community in France. Flights last year were run from several French and European cities across Algeria. Passengers included Syrian families and students living in several European cities.
