Ambassador al-Dahhak: Our region faces great dangers with escalation of crimes and attacks by Israeli occupation

New York-SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qussay al-Dahhak, stressed that our region has been facing great dangers for about a year due to the escalation of the Israeli occupation’s crimes against the Palestinian people, and its persistence in its aggressive acts against the countries of the region, including Syria, noting that the occupation would not have persisted in this without the unlimited support and immunity provided to it by the United States and other Western countries.

Delivering a speech today during a Security Council session on the political and humanitarian affairs in Syria, Ambassador al-Dahhak said: The occupation entity launched a blatant air aggression on the countryside of Hama Governorate on September 8, which resulted in the martyrdom of 18 people and the injury of 37 citizens, and caused material damage to residential areas, infrastructure, electricity, communications and water networks, and Syria holds the countries supporting the occupation entity responsible for the consequences of these blatant attacks, because it would not have persisted in its brutal crimes and attacks on the countries of the region without the immunity, impunity and unlimited support provided to it by the United States and other Western countries, the issue that threatens to ignite and explode the region, and endangers regional and international peace and security.

Ambassador al-Dahhak reiterated Syria’s right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, and its determination to restore the occupied Golan by all means permitted by international law.

Al-Dahhak explained that despite the complex circumstances that the region is going through and the serious challenges that exist, Syria continues its steps to improve the humanitarian situation and provide basic services to its people, and create appropriate conditions for the return of refugees and displaced persons, along with continuing its constructive cooperation with the UN and partners in humanitarian and development work, and providing them with the necessary support and facilities.

The Syrian diplomat pointed out that the success of the Syrian-UN efforts requires Western countries to abandon their plans based on politicizing humanitarian work, and to stop thwarting it by withholding funding and linking it to political conditions. It also requires supporting the provision of sustainable solutions for those affected, strengthening early recovery projects, and the immediate, complete and unconditional lifting of Western coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, as they represent a serious violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and human rights, and collective punishment of peoples.

Ambassador al-Dahhak stressed Syria’s sovereign right to eliminate terrorism in all its forms on its territory and to dry up its sources, and held the United States and its allies responsible for the terrorist organizations’ continued oppressive practices by insisting on continuing policies of investment in terrorism. He warned that these policies and attempts to whitewash the image of these terrorist organizations increase the risks of spreading extremist ideology and the gravity of the threat it poses to the security and stability of Syria and the region.
