Syria delivers statement of Eastern Mediterranean countries in Geneva

Geneva, SANA- The 152nd session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), held in Geneva, have continued its activities on Tuesday, and it will continue till February 7th.

A statement titled “strengthening the global architecture for health emergency preparedness, response and resilience” was delivered by the Syrian Arab Republic during the session.

Health Minister Dr. Hassan al-Ghobash, highlighted importance of the WHO pivotal role in the global architecture of preparedness and response to health emergencies, and its responsibility in setting international rules and standards, exchanging data and information, preparing evidence-based policies and directives, and investigating and responding to health emergencies.

Ghobash noted that the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region are looking forward to further clarification of several details, and to technical support for the implementation of some proposals.

He added that the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean express their appreciation for further discussions on the Global Board for Health Emergency Preparedness and Response, conducting additional consultations about establishing the health workforce, in addition to proposing an increased focus to strengthen capacities developed during the pandemic in emergency preparedness.

The countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region expressed their permanent commitment to enhancing compliance with and implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR).

The countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region also appreciated the efforts exert by the intergovernmental negotiating body concerned with drafting the text of a convention, agreement or other international instrument of the Organization on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
