Mikdad: Syria is committed to support the Palestinian people

Damascus,SANA- Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Fayssal Mikdad , affirmed Syria’s permanent commitment to support the Palestinian people and refugees to alleviate their suffering, especially in light of the big pressures exerted by the Israeli occupation and its western backers, led by Washington, and their continuous conspiracy to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

Mikdad, meeting Philip Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), said that Syria is following with deep concern the serious events and developments that the occupied city of Jerusalem is witnessing as a result of the crimes committed by the occupation forces in the holy city of al-Quds since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and their blatant and barbaric attacks on Worshippers, leaving hundreds of casualties among Palestinians.

“All those attacks are taking place in light of the unlimited US support for the practices of occupation and aggression and amid a doubtful silence of the international community and the unjustified inaction of international organizations to stop these attacks,” Mikdad added.

Mikdad stressed that Syria provides all the necessary facilitations and support for UNRWA to carry out its tasks, guarantee a decent life for the Palestinian refugees.
For his part, Lazzarini breifed Mikdad on the efforts exerted by UNRWA and the United Nations Secretariat to confront the financial crisis of the organization by relying on secured resources and to encourage some donor countries around the world to increase their support to UNRWA so that it remains able to carry out its humanitarian tasks towards Palestinian refugees.

He thanked Syria for the cooperation it offers to the organisation.
