Restoration of historical building of Tourists and Visitors Center in Palmyra starts

Homs, SANA- Ministry of Tourism has begun the restoration of the historical building of the Visitors and Tourists Center located in the archeological area of Palmyra in Homs Countryside, which had been damaged in the attacks launched by Daesh (ISIS) terrorist organization before its defeat and its eradication from the area by heroes of the Syrian Arab Army.

Director General of the Tourism Projects Implementation Authority at the Ministry of Tourism, Eng. Mohana Skeiker, said in a statement to SANA reporter that this important tourist and archaeological project, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, is part of the ministry’s plan to restore the tourism sector to its glory in the historical city of Palmyra.

He pointed out that the body which is implementing the project is the branch of the Military Construction Corporation in Homs, with which the ministry signed a contract with a value of SYP 300 million, adding that the necessary engineering and architectural studies required for the project were conducted, and the implementation period is three months to preserve the nature of its archaeological building, which had been an important tourist destination for visitors and tourists.

For her part, Assistant Director General of Tourism Projects Implementation Authority, Eng. Mai al-Sulih, stressed in a similar statement the importance of rehabilitating and investing the Tourists and Visitors Center, which is considered the tourists’ gate while visiting Palmyra, as it aims to promote its archaeological site.

She noted that at this center, which is an archeological building that dates back to about two hundred years ago, six hotel rooms will be prepared among its corridors for the rest of tourists during their long tour between the archaeological sites, in addition to presenting a general map of the archaeological area and providing visitors with pictures, brochures and required explanations, in addition to the presence of modern display screens that provide a panoramic view and documentary films on the tourist and archaeological city and its development throughout the ages.
