Damascus, SANA – Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov reaffirmed his country’s support for Syria in its war against terrorism.
Umakhanov’s remarks came upon his arrival on Saturday in the crossing of Jdaidet Yabous on the border with Lebanon heading a Russian parliamentary delegation on a visit to Syria.
He also said Russia stands by the Syrian people in determining their destiny without any foreign intervention, voicing hope that security and stability will prevail in Syria again.
Umakhanov, who was received by Deputy Speaker of the People’s Assembly Fahmi Hassan, considered the “victories” being achieved by the Syrian army against the terrorist organizations as a “victory for Russia.”
Hassan, while stressing confidence that Syria will defeat the regionally and internationally-backed terrorist organizations, hailed the support and assistance which the people of Russia have offered the Syrian people.
