Al-Attar calls for confronting intellectual invasion and adhering to Arabic language

Damascus, SANA – Vice President Dr. Najah al-Attar stressed the need to confront foreign intellectual invasion that seeks to blot out Arab heritage and roots and the Arabic language in a bid to alienate the nationalist Arab persona.

During the opening of the 10th annual conference of the Damascus-based Arabic Language Academy, held on Monday at Al-Assad National Library, al-Attar cautioned against calls by foreign sides to abandon the Arabic language and limit education to foreign languages under the pretext that the Arabic language is an obstacle towards development, stressing the need to deal with such propositions with awareness and caution.

She said these propositions would lead to educated people suffering from alienation in their own communities, warning against attempts to isolate or hinder the Arabic language which is the carrier of the Arab nation’s culture and heritage, in addition to its role in Arab nationalism.

The first day of the three-day conference features lectures on Arabic digital content on the Internet, with the participation of members of Arabic Language Academies in Iraq and Algeria.
