Moscow, SANA – The Russian Defense Ministry blasted west’s approach to reconstruction of Raqqa, warning that the city will remain in ruins if its policy is not being reviewed.
On Monday, January 22, Chief of the US Agency for International Development USAID, Mark Green, infiltrated illegally into the city of Raqqa, under the pretext of examining of the scale of destruction in the city caused by the US-led coalition.
The plans and the statements declared for the Raqqa’s reconstruction, especially Green’s statement, cannot but cause surprise, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.
The Ministry went on to say that Green said first that the scale of destruction in Raqqa he saw everywhere was unspeakable, but when it came to providing real assistance, he declared in a quick backtrack that the mission of his agency was “stabilization and not reconstruction.”
“Incidentally, Mr. Green understands stabilization not as provision of meals and essentials to Raqqa’s residents, who remain without homes and food,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“Moreover, USAID plans to fund the proposed measures not from the US budget, but by means of causing pressure on the allies to make them provide aid,” the Defense Ministry concluded.
