Hagop Vanesian preparing for new documentary photography project

Damascus, SANA- Syrian expatriate photographer Hagop Vanesian, who seeks to convey people’s suffering through his camera, is working on a new documentary photography project that suits the reconstruction stage following the Syrian Arab Army’s victories against terrorism.

Vanesian told SANA’s reporter about his new project’s details, saying that after documenting the war in Syria and its impact on the Syrians, he felt the need to turn his attention to the martyrs and heroes who scarified their lives for the homeland and present work documenting their heroism, in recognition of those who forged true freedom and victory for Syria and its people.

Vanesian has an extensive archive including thousands of photographs which he takes with him in his travels abroad as a document showing the barbarism of terrorism and its effects on the life and faces of the Syrians, displaying these photographs at international exhibitions which had a strong impact in diplomatic and cultural circles.

“My work will not stop and I am still going on with it, and that’s the reason why I came home; we must to convey the reality and suffering of the Syrian people and how they confronted terrorism,” he said, adding that mass media, artistic, and cultural movements are the best way to reach the public opinion and uncover the lies the Western media is trying to promote.

Wanessian held his first exhibition at UN HQ in New York in 2015, displaying 26 photographs of Aleppo city before and after war. He won nine international awards in the past three years for the photographs he had taken during the war.
