Astana 7 meeting on Syria kicks off 

Astana, SANA –  The seventh  round of talks on Syria in Astana has kicked off with the participation of the Syrian Arab Republic delegation headed by Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari.

The Syrian Arab Republic delegation has started a  meeting with the Russian delegation headed by the Russian president special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev.

Earlier, the Republic’s delegation held a meeting with the Iranian delegation headed by Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari.

Bilateral and trilateral meetings are scheduled to be held among the participant delegations during the 2-day Astana meeting, while the plenary meeting will be held tomorrow afternoon.

Ansari: delegations of Russia, Iran and Turkish regime reach initial understandings on some points of disagreement

Delegations of Iran, Russia and Turkish regime to the 7th Astana meeting held a tripartite meeting on Monday to discuss the issues on the agenda of this meeting.

Special Representative of Russian President for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal participated in the meeting

Ansari, who heads the Iranian delegation, said that the meeting dealt with the latest field developments on the ground, especially the implementation of the agreements reached at previous meetings on de-escalation zones.

Following the tripartite meeting, Ansari said that the bilateral and tripartite meetings will discuss the violation of the cessation of hostilities in addition to the files of kidnapped, detainees and mines, as well as the developments related to the political solution to the crisis in Syria.

He added that initial understandings on some of points of dispute were reached and further discussion on these issues at the expert level was decided to be held.
