Ankara, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the de-escalation zone agreements in Syria boost the search of a long-term political solution to the crisis.
“The determination was confirmed to follow the final agreements on establishing four de-escalation zones, the largest of them in the Idleb province, reached during the sixth international meeting on Syria in Astana in mid-September,” Putin addressed a press conference held jointly with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday evening.
Putin said that despite all difficulties that faced the process of putting this idea into practice, “we still managed to achieve a positive result.”
“We create conditions for the return of refugees to their homes, which is of utmost importance for stepping up the process of searching for a long-term political settlement in Geneva under the aegis of the UN,” the Russian President added.
For his part, Erdogan claimed that Turkey shares Russia’s views on the unity of the Syrian and Iraqi territories and sees eye to eye with the Russian side on many issues, particularly those related to monitoring the cessation of hostilities in Idleb.
