Higher Education Minister, UNFPA Deputy Executive Director discuss cooperation

Damascus, SANA – Higher Education Minister Atef Naddaf on Monday met Deputy Executive Director of the UNFPA Natalia Kanem, discussing with her means to develop and enhance cooperation, particularly in the fields of education and supporting youths.

Naddaf said that the Syrian government still considers education a priority, supporting it and providing it for free for all levels despite the challenges spawned by the terrorist war on Syria and the unilateral sanctions imposed on Syrians.

The Minister pointed out that in 2016, educational hospitals have provided free medical services to around 7 million people, and to around 100,000 people since the beginning of 2016, noting that this includes oncology and pediatrics treatment.

He called on the UNFPA to provide assistance and help in repairing malfunctioning medial equipment in hospitals and in providing medicine.

For her part, Kanem said the UNFPA is prepared to cooperate with the Ministry and conduct training courses for doctors in various fields, in addition to help with the maintenance of obstetrics hospitals and providing medicine.
